The Early Years

Mike Greenamyre, owner and general manager of American Roofing, first learned at a young age about roofing and sheet metal trades while working for his grandfather and father's roofing and heating business. With a desire to make own his own roofing company and expand outward into the metro KC market, American Roofing was incorporated in the State of Kansas in 1973.

Our Reputation Grows

In our first years we primarily focused on commercial and residential roofing in Leavenworth County. As our skill and talent quickly grew, so did our reach into the Kansas City Metro market and beyond. We completed large scale commercial roofing projects in Johnson, Douglas, Miami, Seneca, Jefferson and Atchison counties in Kansas, and Jackson and Plate, counties in Missouri.

Our quality orientated growth has made American Roofing one of the most respected players in the northeast Kansas industry of commercial roofing and sheet metal. American Roofing has re-roofed hundreds of schools, factories, and warehouses, all types of residential roofs, libraries and museums from Leavenworth to Topeka and from Paola to Sabetha. After 35 years of business American Roofing can proudly say that we have always perfectly fulfilled a contract and met or exceeded an owner’s expectation. No call backs, just happy customers, quality work and competitive pricing.

Our Team

Team work is what built American Roofing, and it's what keeps it alive, productive and quality minded.

With pride, owner Mike Greenamyre can state that his field leaders and his office staff are all long term loyal employees who have worked their entire careers at American Roofing, most going on 20 years plus, some 30 years plus. Why leave when you work with friends, provide a quality product and have pride in who you work for. American Roofing is a team, a team of friends who demand quality and expect it at every turn.

• Tom Roemer, Estimator. A long time friend and KU roommate with owner Mike Greenamyre, came to American Roofing when they first opened in the early 70’s. Originally working as lead foreman and gaining the reputation as the leader of the “A-Team” – eventually became the head estimator and project manager.


• Harry Felzke, General Superintendent. First came to American Roofing in 1978. Soon, Harry turned foreman after demonstrating his ability to skillfully apply every type of roofing system and lead a large crew of men. Harry is known for his engineering thought process and problem solving abilities.


• Clarence Eagle, Foreman. Clarence came to work for American Roofing 1984 and has worked here ever since. Clarence is now head foreman and overall leader of all field staff. Look up respect and quality in the dictionary and you'll see a picture of Clarence Eagle.


• Frank Blakeley, Foreman. Frank began woringk here in 1992 and has worked his way into being a Class A foreman with the knowledge of every roofing application and product. Frank can do it all, from flat work to shingle, slate and tile.


• Richard Percival, Foreman. Richard was originally a roofing foreman, and is now a sheet Metal Foreman. Richard, aka “Perci” is THE all around guy to get any job done, any time, any place. Richard Percival is nearing his 20th year at American Roofing.


• Kyle Hanks and Kevin Young. Kyle and Kevin make up the guts of the sheet metal department. Kyle is working on his 10 year and Kevin on his 22nd. Both are revered assets to American Roofing and always leave a job with no stone left unturned. They are highly skilled and aim for perfection.


• Dale Morrison, Office Manager. With over 25 years in the office, Dale has seen and heard it all. He is the eyes and ears of American Roofing and all aspects of our daily operations. Originally roofing at 19 years old, he soon moved to the office for payroll, then accounting and now office manager.


• Hans Stutz, Estimator. Hans spent his first 7 years at American Roofing on the roof learning every type of roofing system and application. 5 years ago, he moved into the office to apply his experience to the job estimating process.


• Susan Willis, Bookkeeping and Records. Susan has been with American Roofing for 9 years. She is a trusted employee who excels at her job. Her work ethic is as impressive as her organization. She is also our resident birthday party chief.

[ Proper maintenance of your commercial/flat roof is important because it helps to address small problems early and eliminate the risk of larger, more costly repairs later. Manufacturer warranties will require that annual maintenance is performed and American Roofing can work with you to design a plan that will help extend the life of your roof. ]

Equipment and Fleet

Over the 35 plus years of American Roofing's existence they have continually built up their equipment base. Starting in 1973 with only a few ladders, one dump truck, one crew truck and a small gas engine roof hoist, American Roofing has generously equipped itself with two state of the art cranes, two Lull forklifts with 35 foot reach, three Genie “snorkel” lifts, seven dump trucks, half a dozen foremen trucks and a fleet of personal trucks for estimators and superintendents.

Hot tar and cold spray kettles have constantly been upgraded and checked for safety and cost savings. Rooftop cutters, brushes, roofing applicants and hand tools are always well maintained and cleaned for precision safety and speed.

Each year, as required by the Federal Department of Transportation, every truck in excess of 12,000 GVW goes through an extensive check at Westphal GMC truck center to ensure everything is in working order. Upgrades are performed as required for DOT certifications.

License and Insurance

American Roofing carries full coverage workman’s comp and general liability insurance, with a $2 million dollar additional umbrella.

If a Performance and Payment Bond is required – no problem. We’ve been providing million dollar plus bonds to schools and government agencies for decades.

Safety

Safety is top priority.  Safety brings workmen back home to their families; safety keeps rates down and competitive bids, competitive.  Every morning our foremen, superintendents and supervisors always hold safety as #1 because it's their friends they work beside and their friends they want to protect.  Safety is of our utmost concern and we work with our staff and insurance company to maintain this atmosphere of safety

American Roofing's employees attend yearly OSHA training seminars provided by our workman’s comp insurance company; Kansas Builders Industry

Our General Superintendant and lead foremen are certified through OSHA's extensive 30 hour class for comprehensive safety and fall protection.

All roofing and sheet metal crews attend an annual 8 hour OSHA approved safety class provided by 3-E Safety Services of Kansas City. 

3-E Safety Services also provides us with weekly job-site visits checking for proper fall protection implementation, fire protection and overall safety requirements.  

American Roofing requires all of our commercial drivers (class A and Class B licenses) to submit to random drug testing provided by Pipeline Drug Testing Corporation.

ALL employee applicants are required to submit to drug testing and physical capacity testing before receiving permission to work at American Roofing.  

All vehicles with gross weights in excess of 12,000GVW go yearly to Westphal GMC for thorough safety checks as required by the US Department of transportation.  

Our roof kettles, asphalt pumps, cutters, power brooms and all related equipment are constantly maintained and serviced.  Our equipment is routinely cleaned for safety and efficiency.

All men appreciate the family atmosphere that permeates the workplace at American Roofing and its not just eventual friendship and longevity that creates this atmosphere, it's a fact that everyone cares about each other.  From the president to the foreman to the first year worker, everyone shows respect and demands a safe working environment.  Heavy equipment, overhead crane work, ladders, kettles and work heights’ create potential danger for all, but when all think safety those dangers are lessened considerably and the company, its employees and yes the customer are the winners.
